Mariam Elsayed

Mariam Elsayed joined the Deputy Director for Science Programs (SC-3) as a Management and Program Analyst in 2021. Her primary responsibilities include the stewardship of data analytics projects and management of staffing plans for SC-3.

Mariam returned to the Office of Science (SC) after some time at the Forest Service at USDA. There, she was with the Performance, Planning and Evidence team which performed analytics to assess performance, developed the agency's strategic plan, and established governance for Agency-wide data stewardship and management. During her previous time at SC, she worked in the Office of the Principal Deputy Director for over six years. She played a key role in the development, curation and analysis of the scientific user facility user statistics, participated in the PAMS project as a Functional Working Group Lead, and assisted the Principal Deputy Director on a number of inter-agency activities.

Mariam graduated from the University of Missouri with a Bachelor's degree in International Studies with an emphasis on the Environment, and received an M.A. with honors in Environmental Resource Policy from the George Washington University. Her Master's thesis focused on analyzing and answering key policy questions on the Environmental Protection Agency's mandatory greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions database. Prior to her time in federal service, she led a project to increase environmental awareness in an improvised area of Cairo, Egypt, and interned at the federal headquarters of an environmental/conservation awareness nonprofit in Washington, DC.
