Dr. Katreena Thomas is an American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) Science & Technology Policy Fellow (STPF) within the Department of Energy Office of Science’s Office of Scientific Workforce and Integrity. Prior to her AAAS STPF role, Dr. Thomas was a postdoctoral researcher at Clemson University through the American Society for Engineering Education (ASEE) eFellows postdoctoral fellowship. Dr. Thomas received her Ph.D. in Engineering Education Systems Design from Arizona State University. Her dissertation explored the experiences of early-career Black engineering leaders. This work expands the engineering leadership scholarship by introducing the authentic voices of a historically marginalized group in engineering. During her doctoral education, she was a member of the Shifting Perceptions, Attitudes, and Cultures in Engineering (SPACE) Lab group. She also served as the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Intern for the Journal of Engineering Education. Dr. Thomas received her B.S. in Industrial Engineering from the University of Pittsburgh and her M.S. in Human Systems Engineering from Arizona State University. Before starting her graduate studies, she worked in the tech industry in the operations field. Dr. Thomas is committed to advancing justice, access, equity, diversity, and inclusivity and hopes that her work will impact the culture and environment of the STEM ecosystem.
