Dr. Eliane Lessner joined the Scientific Users Facilities Division in September 2009. Prior to joining DOE, she worked at Argonne National Laboratory in the Accelerator Physics Group of the Advanced Photon Source and in the Physics Division, as member of the proposed Rare Isotope Accelerator (RIA) group

From 2006 to 2007 she was an AAAS Science and Technology Policy Fellow, tenured at the National Institutes of Health, in the Laboratory Director’s Office. During her AAAS Fellowship she participated in the Program on Public-Private Partnerships (PPP), where she worked on the implementation of a large-scale PPP centered on the interface of biology and nanoscience.

Dr. Lessner earned her Ph.D. in Physics from Syracuse University, and did her thesis work in General Relativity at the University of Chicago. She has conducted research in theoretical physics, in geophysics, and in physics of beams. She has many years of experience in analytical and numerical modeling of physical phenomena; in particular of linear and non-linear dynamics, high-current effects and mitigation algorithms in electron, proton and heavy-ion machines.

She has authored or coauthored over 90 papers in these areas and has given numerous presentations in conferences, seminars, and workshops. She is member of various committees on career development of the American Physical Society. Her awards include a Gold Medal for Excellence from Parana University and four scholarships for advanced studies from the Brazilian Council for Physics Research.
