Dr. Paul Mantica
Facilities and Project Management
Dr. Paul Mantica has served as Division Director for the Facilities and Project Management Division in the Office of Nuclear Physics since January 2023.
Prior to joining the Office of Nuclear Physics, Dr. Mantica was a University Distinguished Professor at Michigan State University (MSU). From 2015 to 2020, he served as Project Manager for the Facility for Rare Isotope Beams (FRIB) construction project. He also served as Associate Director for Operations of the National Superconducting Cyclotron Laboratory (NSCL) from 2009 to 2012. Dr. Mantica pursued research while at MSU on the ground state properties of rare isotopes at NSCL via beta-delayed gamma ray spectroscopy and beta-assisted nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy.
Dr. Mantica received a Ph.D. in nuclear chemistry from the University of Maryland for exploring shape coexisting structures in neutron-deficient isotopes of xenon. He did post-doctoral research at Oak Ridge National Laboratory supported through the Oak Ridge Institute for Science and Education, where he implemented a low temperature dilution refrigerator to study nuclear structure of radioactive isotopes by brute-force nuclear orientation. Dr. Mantica served as Director of the American Chemical Society’s Nuclear and Radiochemistry Summer Schools from 2007 to 2012 and chaired the Nuclear Chemistry and Technology Division of the ACS in 2014. He is a fellow of the American Chemical Society and the American Physical Society. He is also a certified Project Management Professional through the Project Management Institute.
