Baton Rouge Senior Magnet High School - Louisiana Regional High School Science Bowl
Coach Sangita Mathur has been chemistry teacher for 18 years and chemistry buff for life. She earned an M. Phil. in chemistry from India and then another M.Ss. from Louisiana State University. She enjoys being the chemist in her kitchen mixing up exotic Indian spices with the flavors of the deep south. Her research work includes aspirin substitutes and polypeptide grafts. This is her fifth trip to the nationals.
Jay Iyer is a senior whose favorite subjects are biology and chemistry. He particularly enjoys researching in the biomedical sciences and competing in competitions such as Intel ISEF, Science Olympiad, and National Science Bowl. He plays guitar, Ultimate Frisbee, and has a passion for helping those with special needs. He also is a member of numerous clubs, and is an officer of the Indian Cultural Association and chemistry club. He aspires to study either biomedical engineering or biochemistry in college and eventually pursue a career in neurosurgery.
Jonathan Ding is a junior who has been participating in National Science Bowl for three years. He likes all subjects, especially math and physics. He is involved in many other clubs, such as Science Olympiad, Beta, Mu Alpha Theta, and STEM. When not doing science, he enjoys cubing, frisbee, and football.
Benjamin Beasley is a sophomore with an avid interest in physics, math, and electronics. He likes playing badminton, as it’s a sport that requires very little actual strength. He’s currently in the process of building a very questionably “safe” Tesla coil with Soviet military surplus and he loves finding more “efficient” ways to do things.
Sarah Li is a sophomore at Baton Rouge Magnet High School and is in her first year of Science Bowl. Her favorite subject in school is chemistry, but she enjoys all sciences and mathematics except for anything relating to physics. In the future, Sarah hopes to pursue a career in medicine, exploring the overlap between the fields of biochemistry and medicine. In her free time, Sarah enjoys playing classical piano music, playing obscene amounts of Spike Rush in Valorant, and spending whatever time she has left sleeping to ignore her work piling up.
Alex Wu is a sophomore at Baton Rouge Magnet High School and this is his first year doing Science Bowl. He enjoys much of the beauty in math and science that surrounds us. Alex is currently considering a career in engineering, specifically mechanics. Outside of school, his hobbies include procrastinating, putting off work for later, and avoiding things that need to be done. He is even participating in all three of these activities right now!
