Kathleen Borges, Coach
Coach Kathleen Borges has taught geometry and AP statistics and coached Science Bowl and Science Olympiad for the last nine years. She was an environmental engineer in her earlier career and has degrees in civil engineering from University of Michigan, University of Arizona and mathematics teaching from Montana State University. Coach Borges enjoys traveling and looking for interesting aspects of nature with her husband and blue heeler.
Brendan McGovern
Brendan McGovern, a junior, is interested in STEM subjects particularly math. Aside from Science Bowl, Brendan is on the school’s swim team. He loves everything about aviation, and he is in the middle of getting his pilot's license. He has plans to attend Embry Riddle Aeronautical University in Prescott, AZ and pursue an aerospace engineering degree.
Christian Kay
Christian Kay is a senior whose favorite subjects are math and chemistry. Christian joined the Science Olympiad and Science Bowl teams in his sophomore year. Christian is a National Merit Finalist and the valedictorian of his class. Additionally, Christian is a team captain of and four-year varsity athlete for both the cross-country and swim teams. This year, Christian won the Boys 100-yard breaststroke at state swimming which resulted in his team winning the third team state championship of his high school career. Currently, Christian is trying tennis as a new sport, and he is a volunteer coach for a middle school track team. In summers, Christian works at a country club as a lifeguard and maintenance supervisor. Christian plans to pursue a STEM based degree, either at the University of Alabama or the University of Notre Dame.
Casey Rah
Casey Rah is a sophomore who enjoys his chemistry, physics, and pre-calculus classes. He is an editor of his school’s student newspaper. Casey has a twin who is also on his science bowl team. Casey competed in his first Science Bowl in seventh grade and plans to continue Science Bowl through high school. He also plays soccer and is interested in aviation, medicine, and engineering. Casey is very bad at the arts. His worst grade was in band class and his drawing skills are virtually nonexistent. Casey enjoys learning random science information. This is one of the reasons he enjoys Science Bowl.
Matthew Rah
Matthew Rah is a sophomore who has participated in Science Bowl competitions since seventh grade. He enjoys math and science classes and plans on pursuing a career in engineering. Matthew has run cross country as a varsity athlete for two years and is also involved in several other sports, including soccer and track and field. He is a co-founder and editor of the school newspaper and is also a student council class representative. Matthew spends his spare time experimenting with coding and game design, learning visual effects software, and 3D-printing various designs and models. He enjoys reading fantasy and sci-fi novels, with some of his favorites including Dune, Ender’s Game, Magician, and the Harry Potter series. Matthew’s favorite movie is Interstellar, and his favorite video games are Minecraft, God of War, and Doom.
Henry Jagodzinski
Henry “Hank” Jagodzinski is a sophomore and has been competing in Science Bowl since middle school. He enjoys his chemistry, physics, and precalculus classes and looks forward to taking more rigorous science and math classes in his junior and senior years. In 2021, Hank won first place in the agricultural science event and second place in the water quality event at the Montana Science Olympiad. Outside of science, he is interested in journalism. He serves as an editor for his school’s student newspaper and was selected as a Rise Global Winner for his work on student journalism in Montana. He believes that high-quality journalism is vital for science communication, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic. Hank’s other extracurricular activities include golf, speech and debate, student council, and tennis. Hank is currently considering a career in medicine or journalism.
