Clovis North High School
Christine Long, Coach
Coach Christine Long is a twenty two year veteran in teaching. She currently teaches honors biology, and integrated science at Clovis North High School, but has also taught biology, earth science and health. She has credentials in all three areas. She enjoys working with students through coaching both academic and athletic teams. She encourages her students to get involved in extracurricular activities. Her hobbies are reading, playing with her four dogs, practicing survival skills, and most outdoor activities. Her favorite TV shows are The Walking Dead and Resident Alien. Coach Long has been coaching middle school Science Bowl for seven years and has been coaching the Clovis North High Science Bowl team for five years. She loves watching the students learn and display their love of learning inside the classroom and out.
Manogna Jha
Manogna Jha is currently a senior at Clovis North High School. She is an INTJ personality type. No, this does not mean her goal is world domination. Instead, she will attend the University of California: Los Angeles after high school and eventually pursue a career in medicine. Manogna’s favorite pastime is quietly reading or listening to music. She enjoys reading murder mysteries, such as Agatha Christie’s works. Her favorite musical artist is BTS. There are many interesting facts about Manogna. One example was that she has survived nine hurricanes (she used to live in Florida). Another fact is that she enjoys competition. That is partly the reason she wanted to participate in Science Bowl, among other STEM competitions, in the first place. While it is sad that Science Bowl has been virtual the past few years, Manogna hopes to make the most out of her last year.
Isaac Wang
Although Isaac Wang enjoys Science Bowl quite a bit, he participates in many other
activities. For instance, he is involved in Science Olympiad, Science Fair, Biology Olympiad,
and Chemistry Olympiad. Isaac’s favorite subjects are chemistry and biology as he wishes to go
into STEM as a career pathway. During his free time, he watches anime, surfs Reddit,
and plays video games. Specifically, Isaac enjoys watching intense action scenes and the game
Super Smash Brothers Ultimate which he loves even though some characters need to be nerfed
(such as the electric rats).
Joshua Lin
Joshua Lin is a high school junior who, after doing some math, would be able to tell you that he’s seventeen years old. Despite being best friends with biology-lovers, he will talk your ears off about how physics is the best science. While this interest in physics has landed him in hot water with his friends, it has also sent him into the semifinals of the United States Physics Olympiad twice. Joshua is also very fond of approximations in math, so much so that he was shocked to find out that the scorers of the American Invitational Mathematics Exam would not approximate his score up to 100%. Beyond STEM, he can be found performing the piano during church services and in his school’s chamber orchestra, or puzzling over Wordle games with his friends. Joshua hopes to see himself as an engineer advancing spacefaring technologies so that he can one day become an extraterrestrial pianist from outer space.
Zian Shi
Zian Shi is a freshman attending Clovis North High School. He loves the National Science Bowl because of the thrill of competition and first participated in eighth grade. If you analyze his brain waves carefully, you will find that a large portion is always dedicated to physics and math, even when he appears to be napping. In fact, Zian was invited to the US Physics Team Training Camp and took the USA Junior Mathematical Olympiad (although it is up to debate whether these are a result of his superior knowledge or napping skills). In the future, he plans to become a geeky computer scientist, and his USA Computer Olympiad Gold status proves it. In his free time, Zian enjoys hiking, biking, and applying depth-first search to Wikipedia, and he is also a 4-dan Go player. One of the only things he dislikes is writing about himself in third person.
Ananya Vinay
Ananya Vinay is an eleventh-grader from Clovis North High School, in Fresno. Her favorite hobby is reading and she could read anything from New York Times to Dogman! Her favorite subjects are forensics, math, science and language, not necessarily in that order. She was the Scripps National Spelling Bee champion in 2017. She was one of the 300 Broadcom Masters in 2018. She likes to give her 100% to whatever she does whether she wins or not. She also participates in Biology Olympiad, speech and debate and science fair in addition to Science Bowl and Science Olympiad. She wishes to study neuroscience in college.
