Kip Kotzan, Coach
Coach Kip Kotzan has taught science at East Lyme High School for almost twenty years. Prior to teaching he was an applications engineer in surface chemistry for KSV Instruments in Helsinki Finland, worked for two years as a high school chemistry teacher in Jamaica for the US Peace Corps and worked for two years as an oceanographer including a year diving and collecting data in Aqaba Jordan. His formal education focused on molecular biology. Coach Kotzan also coaches junior varsity boys’ soccer, loves trout fishing and skiing, and is the proud parent of three wonderful daughters.
Aditya Kabra
Aditya Kabra has been fascinated by the application of the sciences and math from a young age when exploring breadboard circuits. He has qualified for American Invitational Mathematics Examination five times, helps lead the East Lyme math team, and has qualified for the USA Physics Olympiad. He will be attending Yale University next year and, in his free time, enjoys watching and playing sports.
Richard Chen
Richard Chen has been particularly fascinated by math, physics, and chemistry. He has qualified for the American Invitational Mathematics Examination, and plays the piano and the violin. In his free time, he runs, listens to classical music, and plays Minesweeper. He will be attending the University of Southern California - Thornton School of Music in the fall.
Mingwen Duan
Mingwen Duan has always been engaged in STEM. He has qualified for Junior Mathematical Olympiad, and the US National Chemistry Olympiad national camp, and wants to attend the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. In his free time, he enjoys playing video games with his friends.
Jiarui Peng
Jiarui Peng is an avid fan of many STEM topics. He has participated in many competitions, including US National Chemistry Olympiad, USA Biology Olympiad, and USA Junior Mathematical Olympiad. In his free time, he enjoys playing tennis and reading online arguments.
Avni Kabra
Avni Kabra is an enthusiast of various STEM topics, including math, biology, and chemistry. She qualified for the American Invitational Mathematics Examination and participated in the National Science Bowl in middle school. She also enjoys playing tennis, drawing, volunteering with friends, and spending time with her family.
