Colleen Fordyce, Coach
Nearly five years ago Coach Colleen Fordyce left her career as a research scientist to pursue her passion for teaching. It was the best decision! She has taught physics and chemistry, but her passion lies in biology and AP biology. Coach Fordyce, Doc to her students, is also the sponsor for the La Cueva Science Bowl team. In her (limited) free time Coach Fordyce enjoys gardening, hiking, reading and drawing.
Janie Xiong
Janie Xiong is currently a senior at La Cueva High School in Albuquerque, New Mexico, and has been in the Science Bowl program throughout her entire high school career. Her other extracurricular activities include Science Olympiad, speech and debate, Key Club, HOSA, and various national honor societies. She also plays tennis for her school and has been on the varsity tennis team since her freshman year, helping her team win States in 2021. Her favorite subjects in school are science and math. In her free time, she mainly likes to read, play tennis, and spend time with her family and friends. In the future, Janie is planning on majoring in computer science at Carnegie Mellon University.
Melody Yeh
Melody Yeh is a senior at La Cueva High School in New Mexico. She is passionate about studying biology and chemistry as a member of Science Bowl and Science Olympiad Teams. At school, she holds various leadership positions in clubs such as speech and debate, HOSA, and Key Club, and was a founding member of her school’s VEX robotics team. Melody has qualified for American Invitational Mathematics Examination four times and was invited to participate in the Massachusetts Institute of Technology Math Prize for Girls competition. She plans to major in biomedical engineering, with the aspiration of becoming a pediatrician. In her free time, Melody enjoys solving jigsaw puzzles, crocheting, and traveling with her family.
Mario Sumali
Mario Sumali is a senior at La Cueva High School In Albuquerque, New Mexico, His favorite subjects in science include earth and space and physics. He is interested in computer science and aerospace engineering and plans on majoring in computer science at Stanford in the fall. In his free time, Mario enjoys swimming, playing with his dog Luigi, and watching Youtube videos.
Charles Zhou
Charles Zhou is a junior and often exhibits symptoms of eighth grade syndrome, frequently spouting cliche lines and anime quotes. His hobbies include watching anime, listening to the JP dub, and reading the subtitles. Aside from this during his free time, Charles will study for classes and grind Valorant in hopes of one day becoming Radiant and getting signed to become NA's next hope, disregarding the fact that he is and will forever be hardstuck gold. He often researches ways to obtain superpowers to become a real world Natsu Dragneel, but so far he has been unsuccessful in doing so. Occasionally, he is caught up in his delusions that he forgets to do his job: answering the question. Sometimes Charles can be found eating cold pizza and staring into empty space, never forgetting that maybe the real treasure was the friends we made along the way.
Berkan Dokmeci
Berkan Dokmeci is a senior at La Cueva High School. Berkan will attend college in the fall, but for the moment he is focused on rest and relaxation.
