Melissa Segarra, Coach
Coach Melissa Segarra has taught middle school and high school students for the past thirteen years. She has an educational background in biology , science, bio-medical sciences and pre-medical technology. She has taught subjects like life science, earth science, physical science, health, honors biology and is currently teaching AP biology. She has moderated multiple science fairs with her middle and high school students and is currently the coordinator of the science department. In her free time she enjoys spending quality time with her family.
Diego Rivera
Diego Rivera is a senior whose interests range from physics and mathematics to politics and fantasy. He has been the team captain since tenth grade and has continuously participated in Math Olympiads since ninth grade. He also founded a school physics newsletter. In his free time, he enjoys cooking, reading, and doing math. In the future he wishes to pursue physics; he will attend the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in the fall.
Enrique Gomez
Enrique Gomez is a senior whose favorite subjects are math, chemistry, and physics. In his free time, he enjoys playing the piano, reading, and learning about computer systems and software. Outside of these interests, Enrique enjoys volunteer-tutoring students from and outside the school in chemistry. In the fall, he will be attending Carnegie Mellon University to study electrical and computer engineering.
Alejandro Barillas
Alejandro Barillas is a senior of many interests. From a young age, he had always been interested in science and mathematics and he wants to pursue a career in STEM. He is a senior and is planning to attend Carnegie Mellon University to achieve a degree in mechanical engineering. He has always liked playing the piano and also plans to do that for as long as possible. He also plays tennis competitively and will try to get into a college league if possible. His favorite subject in school is calculus, because he finds some of the problems beautiful in how they are arranged and how solutions are found.
Beatriz Suleiman
Beatriz Suleiman is a junior who enjoys hobbies like reading, singing, learning, and standing up for people. Her favorite class is history and pre-calculus. When she finishes high school, she wishes to study psychology, which she will then use to try to get into law school. An interesting fact about Beatriz is that she has found something she liked about every story she’s ever read.
Andrea Acosta
Andrea Acosta is a high school senior whose favorite classes are physics and music. She is the president of the Earthly Journal at her school and is part of the National Honor Society, the Science National Honor Society and The Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers. She is part of the soccer team and in her free time is a ballet dancer, painter, and avid LEGO builder. She hopes to pursue a career in engineering and will be attending The University of Puerto Rico, Mayagüez Campus in the fall for a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering and a minor in aerospace engineering.
