Cory Poole, Coach
Coach Cory Poole has been a math and science teacher at University Preparatory School for fourteen years and has coached Science Bowl for thirteen of those years. He is currently teaching AP physics 1 and 2 and AP calculus 1 and 2. Coach Poole is also a landscape and astro photographer who loves to take every opportunity to get out and enjoy the beauty of wilderness and pristine night skies.
Ian Sackin
Ian Sackin is a sophomore at University Preparatory School in Redding California. He has participated in the National Science Bowl since seventh grade and has always played to win it. His hobbies beyond that are playing piano, which he has dedicated much of his time to, and cooking. In life Ian believes it is important to always have a purpose and to be working towards a goal.
Hargun Chhabra
Hargun Chhabra is currently a junior at University Preparatory School, with an avid interest in science. His main interests include biology, specifically human anatomy, being involved in clubs such as pre-med club and classes such as anatomy and physiology. Hargun plans to continue with his passion and pursue a career in medicine later on. In addition to science, Hargun enjoys playing golf and soccer, and learning more about different cultures of the world.
Sartaj Gill
Sartaj Gill is a junior at University Preparatory School with strong interests in both science and theater. He has been participating in Science Bowl for six years, and has always enjoyed competing with his friends while learning new things. He is currently president of the math and science club and has had a part in several musicals and plays including lead roles. He is also in other science clubs such as premed. His current plan is to study medicine and become a doctor, or pursue engineering and physics. In his spare time, he enjoys playing chess with his friends and eating Indian food, and he should really get back into fencing because he is becoming a fatty.
Krishna Ram
Krishna Ram is currently an eleventh- grader enrolled in University Preparatory School in Redding California. He enjoys participating in various activities including golf, soccer, chess, and even created his own school club surrounding the analysis of countries' cultures around the world. His favorite subjects in school are surprisingly English, human geography, and of course earth and environmental sciences. One thing you should also note about Krishna is his ability to say wacky and zany things that sometimes may not make sense, especially amongst his friends. However it is all in good conscience and he always makes sure to bestow his positive attitude towards others, especially if they may feel they need it. Other than that, Krishna does not know what college he wants to go to, but he plans to join a proper University of California if given the opportunity, and hopes to major in either premed, English, or even earth science.
Ryan Schoonover
Ryan Schoonoveris a senior at University Preparatory School and he will be attending California Polytechnic University in San Luis Obispo in the fall 2022 semester to study materials engineering. He enjoys playing his bassoon and saxophone, working on his car, and spending time with his friends and family. Ryan is excited to have been on a winning regional Science Bowl team and is enthused to continue on to compete against other schools from the rest of the country.
