Kathie Lanman, Coach
Coach Kathleen Lanman currently teaches eighth grade STEM physical science. Over the span of her career, Dr. Lanman has taught every discipline of science, but life science is her favorite. She has also coached many winning teams in STEM competitions. This is her first season coaching the National Science Bowl. In her free time, Dr. Lanman enjoys making amigurumi crochet figures. Her favorite creation to date is Albert Einstein. Dr. Lanman earned her B.S. in elementary education at Eastern Illinois University and her M.Ed. and Ed.D. in educational leadership from the University of Georgia.
Aadi Vaidya
Aadi Vaidya is an eighth-grade student who's favorite branches of science are physical science and chemistry. He enjoys engineering and applies it to solve issues in society. He plans to attend the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and graduate with a degree in aerospace engineering; then design Formula One race cars.
Yidan Liu
Yidan Liu is a student in eighth grade who enjoys playing multiple instruments, dancing and science. In science, biology and energy are her favorite areas. In her free time, she enjoys watching figure skating and anime. Also, she likes to practice piano and viola, run, and dance.
Muriel Chan
Muriel Chan is a seventh-grader at Booth Middle School who enjoys reading about her favorite subjects, including life science and history. Her hobbies are needlepoint, knitting, crocheting, origami, bookbinding, and calligraphy. She also plays violin and piano and participates in several orchestras as well as recitals and some competitions. In addition to being a part of the Science Bowl team at her school, she writes for the school newspaper and competes in her school's Academic Bowl. In college, she plans to pursue a major in architecture or biology. Some interesting facts about her are that she loves reading Robert Frost's poetry and often goes bird watching at the nearby lake.
Andrew Lee
Andrew Lee is a seventh-grade student who is interested in math and science. He focuses on questions about earth and space and is now learning life science. He enjoys playing clarinet and making artwork in his free time. He would like to study physical science and chemistry in eighth grade and high school. Sometimes, he teaches his friends how to make origami. He always tries his best and loves all science.
Ahmad Abu-Irshaid
Ahmad Abu-Irshaid is currently an eighth-grader. His favorite subjects are math and science. In his free time, he enjoys playing his guitar, keyboard, or euphonium. He also enjoys gaming on his Xbox. In college, he wants to study medicine and become a neurosurgeon. Another thing he enjoys is playing soccer.
