Mary Somerfeld, Coach
Coach Mary Somerfeld has taught at North Middle School for thirty one years and teaches eighth grade science classes. She has lived in Montana for the last forty years. Coaching the Science Bowl and Science Olympiad are her passions in school. Outside of school, she enjoys hiking, snowshoeing, skiing and kayaking. She has coached Special Olympic kayaking. Whenever possible, she loves to spend time with her grandsons.
Ian Arthur
Ian “Cybertruck” Arthur is an eighth-grade student at North Middle School. Not only does he compete in Science Bowl, but also other academic competitions including Science Olympiad. His favorite subjects in school are science and math. He plans to go to college for architecture and engineering. He enjoys hiking and fishing, as well as hanging out with his friends.
Elijah Crist
Elijah “Model X'' Crist is an eighth-grader at North Middle School. He does many activities like tennis, math, reading and being outdoors. He plans to go to Brigham Young University in Utah for his undergraduate degree and an Ivy League school for graduate school. He wants to double major in business and engineering.
Landry Rukavina
Landry “Roadster” Rukavina is an eighth-grader at North Middle School and The Brain Force is with him. Landry loves science of any kind, math of all sorts, history but never ask Landry about English, trust me. He enjoys building and using computers mostly for video games but they can come in handy for other things. If you say a fact about Star Wars, Marvel, or the DC universe there is a 99.99999% chance that Landry knows. Who is Luke Skywalker’s grandson? or what is Iron Man's most powerful suit? try to answer. He is invested in many things like woodshop, toastmasters, percussion, honors classes, cryptos, and many other activities that make planning a nightmare. Landry aspires to be an engineer whilst double majoring in business at an honors college and maybe even go to an Ivy League. He is inspired by the work of Elon Musk, Charles Darwin, Albert Einstein, Steven Hawking and Stan Lee.
Ethan Janusz
Ethan “Model Y” Janusz is a seventh-grade student at North Middle School. He enjoys Science Bowl and Science Olympiad. He has tried out for MATHCOUNTS but did not make the cut. He enjoys learning about physics, chemistry, astronomy, fishing, running, and cooking.
Scotlen Brown
Scotlen “Model S” Brown is an eighth-grade student at North Middle School. Scotlen enjoys playing video games, spending time with his two dogs and proving his science teacher wrong. He loves reptiles and amphibians, and has pet turtles. For physical activity he plays lacrosse and track. Scotlen is in honors math but not English because he is horrible at English and his handwriting is written in English but read in Egyptian. He would like to go to Montana State University and get a paleontology degree, which he has wanted since he was four. His favorite dinosaur is Saurophaganax, the king of the lizard eaters.
