The Department of Energy Isotope Program (DOE IP), in the DOE Office of Science (SC), sponsored the 8th Workshop on Isotope Federal Supply and Demand. Workshop participation was limited to representatives of Federal agencies. This one-day workshop aimed to optimize interactions between Federal entities to mitigate potential shortages of isotopes with critical strategic importance to the Nation and to exchange information on isotope supply and demand.

The single day workshop took place virtually using Zoom for Government on January 24, 2023.

We encouraged all Federal agencies and departments that had isotope needs or were sponsoring activities in need of isotope products to be represented at this workshop.

This workshop focused on the use, supply, and demand of isotopes from a Federal perspective. Areas discussed included homeland defense, medicine, agriculture, as well as basic and applied research. Discussions included existing supplies of isotopes and efforts underway to increase supply of critical isotopes. Potential supply shortages of isotopes were discussed alongside efforts to optimize their availability. The results of this workshop and subsequently submitted information served as crucial input to increase isotope supply and mitigate shortages of critical isotopes.
